Meet Eddie…
Here are some first shots of Eddie
Everybody wanted to see how Eddie looks, so the next time we took him for a walk, I took the PDR with me and shot some pictures…
Now ain’t he the cutest?
Yes, that dog is on the list of 40 dangerous dog types here in germany. Each and every dog on that list has to wear a muzzle unless the dogs has passed a special test to make sure it’s not dangerous.
So, in the mind of the mob everybody who has such a dog is currently a potential childs murderer and a criminal who’s dog should be shot.
Here’s a more or less unsharp frontal shot of Eddie approaching me. That was quite fast, and about ½second later I had a wet nose in the face.
Eddie didn’t know my mother at all, but having here as a new person around alone was sufficient enough a reason to greet her as if they were oooold buddies who hadn’t met for years.
That behaviour is pretty common throughout that so called fighting dogs, who in reality are perfect family dogs and usually friendly and open.
Those greeting ceremonies usually take as long as the greeted person can take it and are mixed with high jumps to lick the face of a greeting target. The whole procedure is quite a wet but friendly experience
One of the few options one has to stop being greeted is to point to another greeting candidate. In that case Eddie will oscillate between targets until everybody has surrenderd or Eddie sees something more interesting…
… but is of course willing to come back and continue to greet or eventually let the greeting evolve into playing.
Here in germany, Eddie is currently required to wear a muzzle. So after a walk, he’s understandably rubbing his nose to scratch it and to get the leathery smell of it. We tried another option called Halti which looks as if it’s a much less invasive method, obeys the special law for that kind of dog and is much more accepted by Eddie.
Actually, I’m running out of text here, so here are the remaining images, without any comments:
